Staff members on our LGBT Inpatient Program Track understand the importance of creating a safe haven where patients have the freedom to openly express feelings and discuss issues without prejudice or judgment.
Our treatment program components are designed to promote successful mental health recovery for the LGBTQ+ patient and include cultural sensitivity and humility, awareness of the impact of cultural victimization and addresses the issues of internalized shame and negative self-acceptance. Our program provides culturally competent, supportive resources for the exploration of gender identity and gender expression creating a safe and respectful therapeutic environment in which patients can navigate their way through their very personal transition process on the way to living an authentic life.
The Mental Health treatment of LGBTQ+ clients uses the same modalities as for heterosexual clients, including psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both. Affirming therapy assumes that LGBTQ+ identities are normal and focuses on helping patients accept and gain comfort with their sexual orientation and gender identity while addressing the identified mental health needs.
